How to bet $100K Lecomte Fair Grounds Pick 4

Email

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's Guaranteed $100K 50-cent Pick 4 at Fair Grounds. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com.

Race 8 (Maiden Special Weight $46,000)

DONOHARM (#1) fits nicely in terms of Beyers and he has speed and the rail. PROPER EMPIRE (#5) clearly fits off that last effort and Beyer; he's the one to fear late, and he's nearly impossible to leave off any ticket, regardless of its size. CONGENIAL (#6) caught slop in each of his last two starts but still ran well; he has license to move way up given fast footing on a conventional dirt track. VASTEN (#9) has some very nice works showing for a barn which is always dangerous first time out. Backup tickets will include Atlantic Titan, who has posted figures good enough to win this.

Race 9 (Louisiana Handicap $100,000)

FAST ALEX (#4) was "Tenacious" in victory last time, his fourth win in eight starts over this strip. There's not a whole lot of speed in here, so he'll need to stay close early once again. If you like FAST ALEX, you also probably have to use GLEAM OF HOPE (#6), who was just a nose behind that runner in that Tenacious Handicap. That pair, and GLENWOOD CANYON (#8), have the best recent figures in the field, but I'll also include ALMA D'ORO (#9) in equal strength, as that 6-year-old may hold an advantage, thanks to his early zip. Worldly is a horse I'll use on backup tickets, as his speed and inside post could be an edge given the expected pace scenario.

Race 10 (Pan Zareta $75,000)

WILD ABOUT MARIE (#5) is the consummate professional turf sprinter, with five such wins in six tries in short turf races. She comes off a win against overmatched optional claimers, and while the Beyer is light, the early fractions made it difficult for her to post a big figure. She won't have that problem in today's Pan Zareta, which has no shortage of speed. I'm also using FLASH MASH (#10), who has been a new horse since she switched to the grass. Hard to say if she's this good but she's likely still improving with experience and she's done little wrong thus far.

Race 11 (G3 Lecomte $175,000)

EXFACTOR (#5) stretches out for the first time but the barn excels with horses going from sprints to routes and he's certainly bred to handle a distance. He comes off a game win in his first start back after a layoff, and while he's a "bounce" candidate off that taxing score he's worked well in the interim. HAMMERS TERROR (#8) registered a sharp victory in his first start vs. winners and merits respect off that win, and those solid subsequent works. SHARED PROPERTY (#11) hasn't been out since October but he fits well with these if he's ready. Backup tickets will include Dan and Sheila and Z Dager (entry), Ted's Folly, Mr. Bowling, Seven Lively Sins, and Capetown Devil.
