How to bet $100K guaranteed Hal's Hope Gulfstream Park Pick 5

Email

Here's my race-by-race rundown of Saturday's Guaranteed $100K .50-cent Pick 5 at Gulfstream. I'm building my wager with TicketMaker, found exclusively on DRF.com.

Race 7 (Maiden Special Weight $51,000)

ECABRONI (#8) is the one to catch and beat, and he certainly could wire this field as the main speed, making him an easy horse to use. But the fact that he stopped despite a clear lead in his bow, and is now asked to go an eighth of a mile further also makes him a bit risky. So I'm using RISE AGAINST (#7) and ARM FORCE (#9) in equal strength, as the former has competitive figures and his trainer does well with turnbacks, while the latter has some decent works for a barn which does well first time out. Backup tickets will include firster Hunter Jak, the speedy Wewoka Switch, and Vector, who tries dirt for the first time.

Race 8 (Optional Claimer $62,000)

VERSAILLES ROAD (#7) looks tough in here, not only because he has the best figures in the field but because he has some speed in a race lacking same. He figures to be just off likely pacesetter Rock Alex and should get first run at that rival, giving him the edge on the stone closers. I'll single him on my main ticket. Backup tickets will include Carnival Ride, Flamin' Hot, Walker's Landing, and, to a lesser extent, Relampago, East of Danzig, and Fastest Magician.

Race 9 (Hal's Hope Grade 3 $100,000)

JACKSON BEND (#1) disappointed as the favorite in the Breeder's Cup Sprint but he hardly disgraced himself even though it probably wasn't enough ground for him. That's not the case here, as he stretches back out to a mile, and he should be ideally spotted behind a lively pace, featuring Successful Mission and Decisive Moment. I'm using the former, as well as Soaring Empire, on "B" tickets, but the main play will go through JACKSON BEND only.

Race 10 (Fort Lauderdale Grade 3 $100,000)

Even with a maiden turf race as the last leg this 10th race may be where the biggest spread is needed. GUYS REWARD (#3) was no real threat last time but that was a deceptively good effort, as he was chasing a classy loose speed there. YUMMY WITH BUTTER (#4) ran poorly in his most recent turf race but the boggy conditions provide a legitimate excuse, and his previous tries on the green put him right in the middle of this. MUTUAL TRUST (#5) makes his U. S. debut for trainer Bill Mott, and he's the rare import with both speed and solid works. TEAKS NORTH (#7) couldn't be training any better, and though he's been freshened up he kicked off his solid 2011 campaign with a win over this course in his first start off a break. The lone "B" play is Mambo Meister, who may be a notch below the top four, but he is capable.

Race 11 (Maiden $35,000)

SUMMER KITTEN (#8) was game in defeat in her latest, and while this race will mark her turf debut she's bred for this surface and the connections excel on the grass. CORBINS VILLAGE (#9) just missed in her local debut, and she'll be tough here if she can run back to that effort, which will mean she'll need to avoid a "bounce" in her 2nd start off the bench. Addition of blinkers could well move her up. Another Please, Roses for the Star and Broulan will provide insurance on backup tickets.
