House of Fortune up in time

House of Fortune ($5.60) wins by a half-length in Saturday's $125,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. - House of Fortune caught a stubborn Silent Sighs in deep stretch to win her second stakes of the fall in Saturday's $125,000 California Cup Juvenile Fillies.

House of Fortune finished 1 1/16 miles in a quick 1:42.61, winning by a half-length.

Ridden by Alex Solis, House of Fortune ($5.60) was always well-placed after being bumped at the start. House of Fortune was fifth on the first turn, moved closer to the front on the backstretch and engaged pacesetter Silent Sighs on the final turn.

Silent Sighs, the 2-1 second choice in the betting, led by 1 1/2 lengths under jockey David Flores in midstretch, but lost her advantage with a less than a sixteenth of a mile remaining.

"I thought I would win easy but when David asked his filly she took off," Solis said. "Luckily, my filly is very game."

House of Fortune races for Arnold Zetcher and Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally. She won the Cover Gal Stakes in early October and has won 3 of 4 starts and $154,004.

House of Fortune and Silent Sighs were so superior to the other nine 2-year-old fillies that there was a 12-length gap back to the third-place finisher, Coke's Melody.
