Houghton wins 3,000th race


MUSKEGON, Mich. - Jockey Terry Houghton won the 3,000th race of his career Monday aboard Blossom Hill in the first race at Great Lakes Downs. According to Daily Racing Form statistics, Houghton is the 100th rider in history to win 3,000 races.

Through June 3, Houghton was tied for fifth in the national standings with 132 wins. His career mounts have earned more than $24.3 million. He leads the Great Lakes rider standings with 54 wins, 25 more than his nearest competitor. Houghton, 32, divides his time between Great Lakes and Tampa Bay Downs, where he led the standings until leaving in late April to return to Michigan.

Blossom Hill is owned by Winning Stable and trained by Gerald Bennett.
