Hot matchup in Trial

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Prime Time T.V. looks to regain the form he displayed here prior to heading west for the Alberta Derby in Sunday's $40,000 Derby Trial Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.

The Derby Trial is a prep for the $100,000 Manitoba Lotteries Derby, a 1 1/8-mile race here Aug. 1.

Prime Time T.V. came here from Kentucky in the spring and won a first-level allowance race and the Golden Boy Stakes in his first two starts here, with Beyer Speed Figures of 101 and 96. Prime Time T.V. was sent to Calgary for the Alberta Derby June 18. There, he finished fourth as the 8-5 favorite after a wide trip over an extremely sloppy track.

Never challenged in those two starts here, Prime Time T.V. now faces perhaps the toughest rival he's encountered locally in Stormy Business.

A son of Storm Creek, Stormy Business was placed fourth after finishing fifth in the Come Summer Stakes at Canterbury Park in his last start, his first attempt on turf. Prior to that, Stormy Business won the St. Paul Stakes, also at Canterbury Park, defeating Smoke Smoke Smoke, who won the Beau Genius Stakes on turf at Churchill Downs in his next start.

Cherokee Dancer was a wire-to-wire winner when sent off as the 2-5 favorite in his most recent start, a first-level allowance race. Prior to that, Cherokee Dancer had finished third, 8 1/2 lengths back of Prime Time T.V., in the Golden Boy Stakes.

Raggidy Rowe has won both his starts here this year. After taking a first-level allowance in his opener on June 10 at 19-1, Raggidy Rowe won a non-conditioned allowance last time out as the even-money favorite on June 26.

Resurgent won the restricted Manitoba Stakes in his last start, his first around two turns.
