Horsemen's Park: Same cast goes longer in Fanango Lady

Email

The same five horses who ran June 30 at Lincoln Race Course in the Breeders’ Special are rematched Saturday in the $27,500 Fanango Lady Stakes for 3-year-old Nebraska-bred fillies going a mile at Horsemen’s Park.

Bumper’s Shadow scored by 1 3/4 lengths as the 3-5 favorite in the six-furlong Breeders’ Special.

This will be the first time at a mile for all of the entrants, and Bumper’s Shadow can be expected to again be a favorite for trainer Larry Staroscik. Bumper’s Shadow is riding a three-race win streak with her only loss of the year coming by a nose in her first start of the season to Classy Affair in the Fonner Park Special back on April 21. Luis Ranilla will again be aboard.

Classy Affair has gone winless since the Fonner Park Special, her initial stakes score, but could be more effective at the one-mile distance. Owned and trained by Jim Cranwell, she is the only one with experience past six furlongs. She set the pace and faded to fifth over the Canterbury Park turf course in a 7 1/2-furlong race for conditioned $25,000 claimers on June 24. Her next start came in the Breeders’ Special at Lincoln, where she closed late but could not get to Bumper’s Shadow. Chris Fackler has the mount.

Cranwell also sends out Precious Affair as an uncoupled entry. Precious Affair was hard used setting the pace in the Breeders’ Special. She led the way to the far turn but had little left nearing the stretch to finish third, beaten more than 10 lengths. Jake Olesiak will step aboard for the first time here.
