Horsemen's Park: Pace may hamper closer Bach's Homebrew

Email

Bach’s Homebrew had his late run compromised by a short field in his last start, and he will have the same obstacle to overcome Saturday when he faces four other older Nebraska-bred rivals in the $27,500 Who Doctor Who Handicap at Horsemen’s Park.

Bach’s Homebrew was installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite in Saturday’s one-mile race. In his last start on July 9, Bach’s Homebrew also faced just four others in the HBPA Stakes at a mile and 70 yards at Lincoln Race Course. That day, he rallied boldly in the final turn but could not run down the winner. He finished second, beaten slightly less than three lengths. The winner that day was Tenth Power, who won the $50,000 Omaha Stakes here last year. Bach’s Homebrew may have to contend with a rival who gets loose on the lead again.

Bach’s Homebrew will again be heavily favored.

His trainer, Larry Staroscik, also sends out Bingosablumin. Both horses are owned by Bluestem Farm but will race uncoupled in the wagering. Chris Fackler is the rider of Bach’s Homebrew, while Armando Martinez is aboard Bingosablumin.

Chuck Turco will send out From the Ashes, a threat to take this field all the way on the lead. From the Ashes was caught up in a speed duel in the Big Red Mile at Lincoln on May 30 and faded to fifth, but Saturday he could easily find himself well in front as the field reaches the far turn of this five-eighth-mile oval.
