Horse of the day for July 13

Belmont Park - Race 2
5 Furlongs
Maiden Special Weight
Purse $43,000.

Pink Viper is a half to multiple Grade 2-placed performer Flashy Bull by a sire that clicks with 18% of his juvenile debut runners. He sold for $130,000 as a weanling, but was bought back for $100,000 last July. Trainer Alan Klanfer sent out a live firster in Pink Viper's entrymate, Regal Officer, and the two juvenile colts may have worked in company out of the gate on July 2. He is bred for speed on both sides of his pedigree, and should show good zip from the opening bell. Odds of 3-1 seem fair for win bettors. Regal Officer raced greenly against a very promising baby in his debut, and the Officers have come out running. He should improve with a race under his belt, and looms the major danger if able to break in from the also-eligible list.

Handicappers looking to go a bit deeper in multi-race wagers may also use Mark Hennig's Giveityourbestshot, Todd Pletcher's Air Lord, and Gary Contessa's Sipsey. Giveityourbestshot is a firster by the swift Yonaguska out of a half-sister to solid turf performer Unfinished Symph. Air Lord shows promising works for the leading trainer-jockey combination at the meet. He is a half-brother to the very fast Delaware Township. Sipsey makes his debut for an underrated debut barn, and his dam won first-out as a juvenile.

Friend of Mae and Maxey Boy show quick works for excellent connections, and should be respected if they are hot on the toteboard.
