CHARMING BILLY was no match for runaway winner Get Serious at Monmouth (that foe will compete in the Long Branch Stakes on Saturday at the Jersey Shore), but he was professionally rallying along the inside after being outsprinted early, and showcased a nice running action. He drops in with NY-breds for his second lifetime start, and the early pace won't be as hot here. Expect new rider Kent Desormeaux to have him closer to the pace, and he can run these down late.
POSTED cost $350,000 as a yearling, and will likely start the favorite following his 79 Beyer debut at Aqueduct. The son of stakes-winning sprinter Give Notice (20-4-2-3, $107,402) is a half-brother to stakes-placed Never Give In (24-5-2-4, $107,380), but he didn't make his debut until age four, and that indicates he's had his share of physical problems. The recent layoff is a concern, and while he looms a strong forward factor early, he may be underlaid in the wagering. STORMY SUCCESS goes turf-to-dirt for an underrated barn, and he ran some solid figures earlier in the year. He shows an improved workout for this, but doesn't have much speed, and may need a faster-than-expected pace to adequately setup his late kick. MR TOUGH ENOUGH is by a solid debut sire, and he shows a decent five-furlong workout on June 30. MR. BIBBS has some blacktype in his family, and can improve off his debut try against big winner Stormin Normandy (earned 103 Beyer for his win on June 16).
