Horse of the day for 4/11

Keeneland - Race 3
7 Furlongs (Polytrack)
Maiden Special Weight
Purse $50,000.

MANHASSET INDIAN sold for $35,000 at Keeneland as a yearling, but was purchased again as a juvenile in Europe for 160,000 irish guineas. His dam is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Top Secret, multiple stakes-winner Tate (199K in earnings), stakes-winner West's Secret (176K), and stakes-placed Secret Forest (134K). Manhasset Indian finished evenly in the faster division of juvenile maiden special weights over Hollywood's cushion track on December 17, and the winner of that heat, Desert Code, recently won the Grade 3 Baldwin Stakes on turf with a 96 Beyer Speed Figure. Manhasset Indian hasn't raced this year, but trainer Patrick Biancone excels with horses returning from layoffs. Over the past five years, Biancone is 39-139 (28%, $2.10 ROI) with horses coming back from a 61-180 day rest. Manhasset Indian chased fast fractions in California, and should be close to the pace at Keeneland on Wednesday. His last two workouts match up with Biancone's Grade 3 winner Baroness Thatcher.
COOL MOUNTAIN is a half to stakes-placed Storm Breaking (96K), and Grade 3 winner Whimsy, and the dam was a multiple stakes-winner (11 wins, 429K in earnings). The sire-broodmare sire 'nick' has produced multiple stakes-winner High Expectations(313K), and trainer Michael Stidham is 51-205 (25%, $2.48 ROI) over the past five years with firsters. It's a promising sign that top rider Garrett Gomez takes the mount. VICARIAN didn't gallop out very well after finishing second in the quicker division of maiden special weights at Gulfstream two back, then blew the turn in his most recent start. He's been freshened for this, and the March 26 workout matches up with stablemate Atlas Valley (101 Beyer top, entered in the Grade 2 Madison later on in the day). Expect an improved showing, but he must overcome a tough inside post. CHIMNEY STONE's dam is a full sister to turf stakes-winner Ethyl Mae (68K), and Grade 3-placed Doc Martin, and is a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Mystic Lady. She's bred for speed, and shows some quick works over this surface.
SAN GERONIMO faced good competition at Gulfstream, and the son of Grade 3 winner War Thief has been working well for this. Expect some improvement from this $250,000 yearling buy. RED SAND BEACH showed some promise in his debut, and projects to be among the early leaders in this spot. CAYMUS CAPOTE had a tough trip in a contentious restricted stakes race for his career debut. The son of multiple stakes-winner Jive Talker (102K) adds Lasix for his second start, and that is often a potent angle in maiden races. DEL CASTILLO DIAZ is an ex-Coolmore runner making his first start with Lasix for new connections. His dam is Grade 3 winner Lotta Dancing, and he's a full sibling to Grade 2 winner Fantasticat. EL ROMEO is by the great Storm Cat out of Breeders' Cup Juvenile fillies winner Phone Chatter, but he didn't do much in his debut at Oaklawn.
