MOST DISTINGUISHED will take lots of money based on his ultra-competitive Beyer Speed Figures, but he's already been the beaten favorite on four occasions, and he failed to parlay speed-favoring tracks to victory on August 26 at 2-1 odds, and again on January 27 at 3-5. In his most recent start, Most Distinguished was outfinished by 61-1 longshot Crusader Rabbit as well as Beaming, a runner that finished off the board at a short price against maiden claimers on Friday. He's never been off the board, but he has yet to gain ground from the stretch call to the wire in his career, and looms an underlay in Saturday's finale. Instead, we'll take a chance with SECRET DESIGN. Trainer Roberto Calvo is filling in while Richard Dutrow Jr. is serving his suspension, and the Dutrow barn has already sent out three debut winners in 2007 (including a 9-1 shot at Gulfstream). Secret Design's sire only connects with 6% of his firsters, but the Quiet American - Known Fact 'nick' has produced 9 winners from 16 runners including Grade 3 winner Naughty New Yorker, multiple stakes-winner Class Above (debut winner), and Grade 1-placed performer That's An Outrage. Secret Design sold for a respectable $125,000 as a yearling, and the dam is a half to Grade 1 route winner I Believe In You. The second dam is a half to Grade 1 winner Is Your Pleasure, and the third dam was multiple Grade 1-placed as a juvenile. Secret Design attracts Edgar Prado, and should offer value.
DR GOOGLES BOOGLES had the misfortune to face even-money 99 Beyer winner Street Magician, but he passed a few tired horses after a poor start. That was the faster division of 3-year-old maiden special weights on February 10, and he should give a good account of himself once again. REATA'S SHADOW raced wide over a speed-favoring track in his career debut, and shows a recent bullet workout. He may be closer to the pace in this spot. DEVIL IN SPACE isn't that far away on the Beyer scale, but he's already failed for a tag, and is stuck way outside. He may be best played on the bottom of exotic wagers.
SAMHOON cost seven figures as a yearling, but faded badly in his debut. He is bred to go long, and deserves at least one more chance.

The selection: Secret Design to win and place (5-1 odds or more)
YTD statistics (starts-wins, top pick in the money, profit/loss based on day's wager): 18-3 (7) +$51
