CRIMSON MAPLE was outsprinted on the turn of her career debut on dirt when chasing a heavily-favored winner from the Pletcher/Sciametta barn, but she passed a few horses late, and acts like she'll appreciate today's added distance. A three-quarter sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Sky Beauty from the family of multiple Group 1 turf sprint winner Dayjur, Crimson Maple boasts the Rahy - Nijinsky II 'nick' that has produced at least four turf graded/group winners including Breeders' Cup Turf winner Fantastic Light. According to Formulator 4.1 stats, trainer Alan Goldberg is 8-24 (33%, $4.68 ROI) over the past two years with dirt to turf runners, and 3-6 (50%, $3.93 ROI) over the past five seasons with second-time starters making their turf debuts.
DAY BIRD has done little wrong in her career, and should be tighter for her second start since the summer layoff. She's a half to a turf stakes-placed performer, and should be charging hard in the lane. ST. HILDEGARD is also a half to a turf stakes-placed runner, and she made a premature middle move in her most recent start at Belmont. She shows competitive Beyers, and tactical speed, but hasn't been out since June.
GREENERY almost beat males in her career debut when impeded in the late going, and she may have been overmatched against the boys at Churchill last time out. She goes out for a strong turf barn, and is kin to a pair of Group winners on turf in Europe, but her Beyers are in decline. She may be overbet. ARTISTIC ESCAPE draws well, is by a strong turf sire, and is trained by the red-hot Mott barn. Works are only so-so for the debut, however.

The Selection: Crimson Maple to win and place (8-1 or more)
