Maiden Special Weight (statebred)
3-year-olds and upward, fillies and mares
Purse $28,000

NEARLY OVER must break in from the also-eligible list, but she needn't be a superstar to defeat this field, and will face Illinois-breds for the first time. She adds blinkers for a high-percentage outfit, and may fall into a nice outside stalking trip while clear of traffic trouble. She is the rider's first call, and her Beyer Speed Figures at Laurel make her very competitive with these. A half-sister to Grade 3 winner Apt to Be, Nearly Over may offer a bit of value at 10/1 on the track's morning line. DRAMATIC MOMENTS figures to take lots of money based on her Beyer advantage, but she lost ground from the stretch call to the wire in her last four starts at odds ranging from 2/5 to 4/1. She should show good speed once again, but is starting to look like a professional maiden in the making. KATHY'S PRUNE hasn't been out since April, but she ran well fresh to begin her career over this surface, and then had traffic trouble in her second lifetime start. She shouldn't be too far from the early leaders. LEGGY PEGGY finds a weak field for her debut. QUEEN OF FLOWERS has done her best racing on the grass, and will have to shorten up in distance. She'll be moving late, but may run out of ground. BOBSTONE debuts for solid barn, but wdon't be surprised if she needs a race.

The selection: Nearly Over to win and place (5/1 odds or more)
