Hoosier track report

Anderson, Ind. - Apprentice jockey Rafael Bejarano continues to extend the apprentice record for wins in a season at Hoosier Park following his riding triple on Monday. He eclipsed Tommy Pompell's mark of 41 wins set in 1997 and has continued to win at a solid pace.

Bejarano is currently fourth in the standings but well within reach of a runner-up finish at his current pace. Lester Knight has taken command in the rider standings with an 80-55 edge over Alex Birzer. Two-time defending champion Terry Thompson has slipped back to third with 53 wins. Bejarano is poised to strike with 51 wins as the meet heads into the final two weeks.

The Milltown Starter Handicap series winds up Friday night with a field of 10 contesting the gruelling 1 7/8-mile distance. Brass Music has three wins at the meet, including the 1 5/8-mile leg of the series of Nov. 8 in which he rallied from well back to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Forty Karats Jade, a Keeneland invader, ran second that night and should be a strong factor with his stalking style.
