Hoosier Park Stakes

ANDERSON, Ind. - Hoosier Park closes out its stakes schedule with a pair of races for Indiana-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings.

A field of 12 Indiana-breds will start in the $30,000 South Bend Stakes at one mile, which is carded as the fourth race on an 11-race card. In the ninth race, a field of eight colts and geldings sired by Indiana-registered stallions go six furlongs in the $40,000 Indiana Stallion Stakes.

Pemaquid Point, a winner of three straight races here, heads the South Bend Stakes. A son of Devil His Due, Pemaquid Point has a pair of stakes wins to his credit - the Hillsdale and the Indiana Futurity. His lone loss since winning his maiden came at Keeneland when he tired to finish fifth in 1 1/16-mile Hopemont Stakes on turf.

Trained by Gary Scherer for his Indiana starts, Pemaquid Point will have Jose Martinez Jr. in the irons and breaks from post 8. Pemaquid Point owns a lifetime mark of 3-1-0 from 5 starts and earnings of more than $85,000.

Gary Patrick sends out the coupled entry of Izzy Zipper and Cowboy's Limelite. Although never worse than third in four starts, Cowboy's Limelite has only a maiden win to his credit. He should turn in another good effort here.

In the Stallion Stakes, a trio of contenders can be expected to vie for the role of favorite.

Whenthesmokeclears contested the early pace in the Indiana Futurity before fading to

sixth. Trained by Ray Stifano, Whenthesmokeclears should once again be near the front in this field.

Indy Energy, trained by Art Zeis, has won 2 of his 4 career starts by laying just off the early pace and must be respected with Rodney Prescott set to ride.

Restitution, trained by Greg Foley, was running late in the Indiana Futurity and rates a solid chance at picking up the winner's share. Rick Moss has the ride from post 7.
