Hoosier Park: Pace pressure can't stop Higher Logic in Indiana Stallion Stakes
By John McDulin
Email
Higher Logic overcame an early duel to win the $88,000 Indiana Stallion Stakes at Hoosier Park on Friday evening.
Jockey Irwin Rosendo hustled Higher Logic away from the gate and she set a pressured pace to upper stretch. Rosendo asked the 2-year-old Indiana-sired filly trained by Antonio Duran for her best and she responded, drawing off to a 5 1/2-length win over a track labeled as muddy.
Favorite Miss Chatty Cat overcame trouble at the start to finish second, some nine lengths in front of Hot Wind in third. Higher Logic returned $6.00 to win and ran the six furlongs in 1.11.68 over a muddy track.
* Dread the Pirate prompted the early pace under Marlon St. Julien and then drew off in the stretch to win the $89,000 Crown Ambassador for 2-year-old Indiana-sired horses. Clyde Park was second, a half-length in front of favored Seal Beach in third.
Trained by David Paulus, Dread The Pirate won by 3 3/4 lengths and returned $14.80 to win. The running time was 1.12.87 for the six furlongs over a muddy track.
Best Bets
HE AIN'T BLUFFING has been idle seven weeks, but has already posted three layover Beyers either as a first-time starter or when fresh, and new trainer Michelle Nevin has done well here lately with Gulfstream shippers off short breaks, including Teaks North in a stake earlier this week; went well on this track in only try. BUGSY LOSTY has been freshened since disappointing effort on Aqueduct's inner track first time in from SoCal circuit; money chances off two prior dirt races. SATURDAY APPEAL ran a big race at 15-1 when blinkers came on last Nov. 29, and then won with them off Feb.
