Hoosier Park: Maggie's Dream returns

Email

ANDERSON, Ind. - Maggie's Dream seeks her second win in as many starts this year in the $40,000-added Madison County Stakes.

The Madison County is restricted to Indiana-bred fillies and mares who were sired by registered Indiana stallions. The six-furlong dash drew a field of eight, including the coupled entry of Heresyour Chickey and Maggie's Dream for trainer Stanley Roberts.

A 4-year-old daughter of Philadream, Maggie's Dream opened her 2002 campaign here Sept. 2, coasting home a 3 1/2-length winner over one-other-than allowance company. She should be heavily backed for a repeat victory against statebred rivals. Alex Birzer was named on both halves of the entry and likely will ride Maggie's Dream, who seeks her first stakes victory. She was fourth in this race a year ago.

Unfazed is the unknown quantity in this spot. She is trained by Kenneth McClure. Unfazed was an impressive 6 1/4-length winner against statebred allowance foes Sept. 13. She won her maiden against claiming company at Churchill Downs in June and, like Maggie's Dream, has early speed. Rhonda Collins will ride from post 3.

Amanda's Crown overcame trouble in Maggie's Dream's allowance race win to rally for third, beaten 4 1/2 lengths, and appears to have the best chance for an upset. A 3-year-old daughter of Crown Ambassador, Amanda's Crown won the filly division of the Indiana Stallion Stakes last year, her lone stakes victory. Mike Morgan has the ride from post 6 for trainer Stephen Dunn.
