Hoosier Park: Free Bonus on streak

Free Bonus gets one more chance to strut her stuff on Saturday, when she heads a full field of 12 in the fillies division of the $40,000 Indiana Stallion Stakes at six furlongs.

Undefeated in her three career starts, Free Bonus is also a two-time stakes winner at the meet. Trained by David Norris, Free Bonus won her maiden at first asking here on Sept. 10. She returned Oct. 1 and dominated statebred rivals, winning by the City of Anderson Stakes by 11 1/4 lengths.

Her latest start was a 3 1/2-length win in the Miss Indiana Stakes on Nov. 6. On Saturday, she will by ridden by Damon Leeds and will be coupled in the wagering with Moros Fantastic. Free Bonus breaks from post 7 while Moros Fantastic will be outside in post 12.

Slim Justice, trained by Joe Cain, won the restricted Hoosier Silver Cup on Oct. 17 and is the biggest threat to disrupt the top choice's perfect mark. She was second to Free Bonus in the early season maiden win, then rallied from far back to again finish second to the top choice in the Miss Indiana.

The prospect of an off track would enhance the upset chance of Slim Justice, and rain is forecast for this weekend. Regular rider Lester Knight will ride from post 8.

Join the Crusade, trained by Ray Stifano, is the likely choice to round out the top three in the wagering.

Owned by the Circle S Ranch, Join the Crusade was a distant second in the City of Anderson and has since finished third in both the Hoosier Silver Cup and Miss Indiana Stakes. A new addition to the rider colony this week, Roberto Villafan is named to ride Join the Crusade from post 2.
