Hoosier: Cashel Castle cashes

ANDERSON, Ind. - Cashel Castle rolled to victory in Saturday night's $102,650 Hoosier Juvenile Stakes, and just in time. Less than an hour later, the remainder of the card was canceled because of severe weather.

Trained by Chris Block for the Sandbar Farm of Sandra and Barry Bucholz, Cashel Castle sat just off the early pace duel of Just Le Facts and Handsome Hunk in the six-furlong race. Those two rattled off fractions of 22.11 seconds and 45.19 over the "good" track.

Jockey Eusebio Razo Jr. gave Cashel Castle a left-handed crack of the whip just outside the eighth pole and the colt responded to surge clear by a length in 57.63 for five furlongs. Cashel Castle scored under a hand ride by eight lengths in 1:10.63 to remain undefeated in three starts.

A gray son of Silver Ghost, favored Cashel Castle returned $4.40. Just Le Facts finished second, another eight lengths in front of Handsome Hunk, who faded to third.
