Honor Me hangs on in Hot Springs Stakes

Honor Me ($10) holds off the late-charging Chindi by a half-length to capture the $50,000 Hot Springs Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Sunday.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Honor Me fended off a strong late bid by Chindi to win the by a half-length at Oaklawn Park on Sunday. It was another length and three-quarters back in third to Sand Ridge.

Honor Me($10) tracked pacesetter and favorite Cojet in second early, while that one led the field through fractions of 22.51 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.98 seconds for the half-mile mark. In the stretch, Honor Me took over then held off Chindi for the win, covering six furlongs over a fast track in 1:09.82.

"He gave me the big finish when he needed to get the job done," said Rodney Trader, who rode Honor Me.

Trader was aboard for owners Rick Turman and trainer Stanley Roberts, who form Highway 1 Racing Stable. The partnership claimed Honor Me for $25,000 last June.

Honor Me, a 5-year-old son of Honor Grades, earned $30,000 for the win, which was his 12th from 27 career starts. His earnings now stand at $256,008.
