Joyful Ballad wins the Ogle and Company Stakes by 3/4 lengths at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

OLDSMAR Fla. - Joyful Ballad gave locally based horses their third win of Saturday's Florida Cup card at Tampa Bay Downs when she looped rivals on the second turn and went on to post a three-quarter-length win over Marwood in the Ogle and Company Stakes.

The Florida Cup card comprised six $75,000 stakes.

Under Jose Lezcano, Joyful Ballad sat back in 10th through the early going of the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. After the leaders ran a half-mile in 48.24, she began picking up rivals along the outside and challenged for the lead after a six-furlong clocking of 1:12.90.

Vidlocity, who had been improving her position along the inside, found room along the rail and challenged Joyful Ballad a furlong out. But Joyful Ballad, a Saint Ballado 5-year-old, was able to turn back that challenge and draw clear entering the final furlong.

Meanwhile, Marwood, who had been buried in traffic through the second turn, came charging along the outside, but Joyful Ballad had enough left to prevail. Vidlocity finished another three-quarters of a length back in third.

The win was the sixth from 16 lifetime starts for Joyful Ballad, who is trained by Tom Proctor. The $41,000 winner's share of the purse increased her career earnings to $157,350.

Joyful Ballad returned $10 and was timed in 1:42.05.

Easy score for Nightmare Affair

Finding room along the inside in the stretch, Nightmare Affair shook off pacesetting Scrubs and drew away late to post a 3 3/4-length win in the Hilton Garden Inn Sprint

Ridden by Aruelio Toribio Jr., Nightmare Affair angled to the inside on the backstretch of the six-furlong race, as Scrubs cut out early fractions of 23.04 seconds for the quarter and 46.14 for the half while being pursued by Hi Time Scott and Call Me Pete.

Moving out of the turn, Hi Time Scott ranged up along the outside, and Toribio also had Nightmare Affair in gear down along the rail. Scrubs still held a head lead in midstretch after five furlongs in 58.25 but was tiring from his pacesetting efforts. Nightmare Affair took command, pulling away through the final furlong under a brisk hand ride. She covered the six furlongs over a fast racing strip in 1:10.15.

Scrubs finished second, 3 1/4 lengths ahead of Hi Time Scott.

The win was the first from six outings this season for Nightmare Affair, who is trained by Manny Azpurua. The Sprint field was shortened to nine runners after five were scratched.

* In the 1 1/16-mile Dayton Andrews Dodge Stakes, Nicandro, who had been knocking heads with tough 3-year-olds on the main track, found a home on the turf as he sprinted clear at the start of the 3-year-old route and made every pole a winning one under Jessie Garcia.

Nicandro returned a whopping $77 for Tampa Bay trainer Myra Mora.

* Revved Up ($5.80) prompted a slow pace for six furlongs and drew off late for a 3 1/4-length win in the Cherokee River Stable's Stakes. Revved Up, trained by Christophe Clement, covered the 1 1/8 miles over a firm turf course under Eddie Castro in 1:49.62.
