Hollywood: Winendynme sprints to victory

Email

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Ineffective in recent stakes at a mile, Winendynme reverted to sprinting in the $79,950 Manhattan Beach Handicap - and scored the first stakes win of her nine-race career.

Ridden by Jose Valdivia Jr., Winendynme ($9.80) rallied from fifth to win by two lengths over Very Vegas. Allswellthatnswell finished third in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies. The Dempsey Look, the 4-5 favorite, was never in contention and finished fourth.

Winendynme finished 5 1/2 furlongs on turf in 1:01.72. Trained by Jenine Sahadi for her father, Fred, Winendynme has won 3 of 9 starts and $139,489. She stalked pacesetters Absolute Nectar before rallying wide in the final furlong.

Winendynme finished third in the Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita on April 11 and fourth in the Senorita Stakes at Hollywood Park on May 15. In both races, run over a mile on turf, Winendynme was closer to the front in early stretch than at the finish.

"I thought she could go two turns, and I was an idiot," Jenine Sahadi said. "The first time she ran a mile, she got really sick after the race, and I gave her an excuse for that. But after the last race the other day when she really had no excuses, I said to my dad, 'I think we've got a late-running sprinter on our hands.' "
