Hollywood Pick 6 preview for Wednesday

Hollywood Park - Race 3
1 1/16 Miles
Maiden Claiming (32-28)
2-year-old fillies

TOP OF ATLANTRA made a nice impression in her debut over Golden Gate sod as she was hung very wide going into the first turn, and still was gaining ground in the closing stages. Turf horses usually transfer their form to the all-weather, and a repeat of that 64 Beyer Speed Figure would put her in the winner's circle despite the tough outside post. Mate STRIP N CARSON's Beyers put her right in the mix, and she acts like she'll appreciate the added distance. Think that ASCOREINGLADY may try to steal this stretching out from sprints.

Pick 6 strategy: single Top of Atlantra (1a)

Hollywood Park - Race 4
1 1/16 Miles (Turf)
Claiming (50-45)

PISTOL CREEK got a little tired in the stretch of his last race - his first since late August - and he has every right to move forward with that race under his belt. He ran well at this 50K level at Del Mar, has the tactical speed to be in the thick of things from the start, and boasts improving Beyer Speed Figures. FERNDALE SAL beat a pair of next-out winners in statebred allowance on grass two back, then was competitive against 80K claimers last time out. He's solid, should appreciate dropping in class, and figures right there wheeling back in six days. FULL IN hasn't won since shipping in from South Florida, but he is improving on the Beyer scale, and may have found the downhill sprint a bit short for him last time. The barn shows confidence by hiking him up in claiming price. CAN'T STOP SLEW failed to parlay good trip to victory two back, but has been freshened up, and can be a pace player here.

Pick 6 strategy: use Pistol Creek (4), Ferndale Sal (3), Full In (7)

Hollywood Park - Race 5
7 Furlongs
Claiming ($8,000)
3-year-olds and up

HIGH Z didn't beat much at Los Al last time out, but he did it the right way with a strong late rally, and he has been successful on this circuit in the past. Gray gelding is in good form, and will offer value for Pick 6 players. I B BAD finished ahead of three next-out winners after failing to overcome a very speed-favoring surface two back. He's been the runner-up in his last four races, and should be right there once again. TALKING TO JOHN has lots of back class, and he finished ahead of High Z at Fairplex three starts back. Don't be surprised if he shows improved speed here. LORD C. J. should be a huge price off several poor efforts, but he once had a pulse in Florida, and doesn't face the most reliable foes in the world.

Pick 6 strategy: use High Z (2), I B Bad (5)

Hollywood Park - Race 6
6 1/2 Furlongs
Maiden Claiming (62.5-55)
2-year-old fillies

PALM BREEZE has valuable experience over all-weather surfaces, and he adds blinkers for initial SoCal try. Good to see Gomez take the mount, and a nice outside stalking trip could be in the cards. SMOOCH paired up Beyers to begin her career, and the addition of blinkers may give this gal better speed and focus. This will be her first start for a tag, and she's bred to be quick on top. JUMP ROPE GIRL tired badly on the lawn on October 14, but still finished ahead of Smooch, and that race came back as a key event. Looms the main speed under Chavez

Pick 6 strategy: single Palm Breeze (8) - on wider tickets, add Smooch (4), Jump Rope Girl (3)

Hollywood Park - Race 7
7 Furlongs
Allowance (N$Y)
3-year-olds and upward

Grade 2 winner HARVARD AVENUE raced on the deeper inside paths when making first start in over a year on November 1. He made a little run in upper stretch before understandably tiring late. He should be tighter for this, and will be running hard in the lane. BUCKLAND MANOR makes the important third start of the form cycle, and he has a lot of back class. Although he has done most of his damage on the lawn, he is a stakes-winner on dirt, and just missed in the Grade 2 San Pasqual earlier in the year. GOTAGHOSTOFACHANCE hasn't raced since winning the Grade 3 Sport Page on the 2005 Breeders' Cup undercard. He's obviously had his share of problems, but is certainly good enough to win this.

Pick 6 strategy: single Harvard Avenue (4) - on wider tickets, add Buckland Manor (2), Gotaghostofachance (5)

Hollywood Park - Race 8
1 Mile (Turf)
Maiden Special Weight (Cal-breds)

3-year-olds and upward

VALLEY STORM took all the money last time despite the fact that it was her first start in almost a year. She should be sharper for this, and put up some solid Beyer Speed Figures on grass last season. DRY YOUR EYES looks live switching to P. Val, and she's been right there in all of her starts to date. PROUD CECY is still without an exacta finish after 16 starts, but had trouble off the layoff last time out. IMAGINE is by top sire Giant's Causeway out of Grade 2 winner Smooth Player. It's taken a while for this firster to make it to the races.

Pick 6 strategy: single Valley Storm (8) - on wider tickets, add Dry Your Eyes (6), Proud Cecy (4)
