Hollywood Park: Valenzuela checks in with agent after missing Thursday card
Email
INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Jockey Patrick Valenzuela contacted his agent early Thursday evening after failing to appear to ride at Hollywood Park earlier in the day, and said he missed his mounts because of concern for his girlfriend’s well being.
“It’s something to do with his girlfriend,” Tom Knust, Valenzuela’s agent, said on Thursday. “He said he would explain more to me. He said he would call me back.”
Valenzuela was booked to ride five of the eight races at Hollywood Park on Thursday, but did not show up at the track and failed to contact racing officials, including the stewards, or Knust to say that he would miss his mounts.
Thursday evening, Knust said it was unclear whether Valenzuela would ride at Hollywood Park on Friday. The eight-race program begins at 7:05 p.m. Valenzuela has five mounts.
Earlier on Thursday, Knust said that Valenzuela had visited his girlfriend in the San Diego area on Wednesday and had been expected to drive back to his Los Angeles area home on Wednesday evening.

Facing a shallow field of maiden-20 for fillies and mares, second-time starter MISS MADDIE BEE can be long gone at a short price. She dueled through a hot pace before tiring in her maiden-40 debut, but now shortens to five and one-half furlongs, drops to the bottom, and figures to clear the field. Adios. AWESOMEKAYLEE has a pair of good-looking gate works the past two weeks, and makes her career debut against a shallow group. Sired by Awesome Again, she is the first foal out of 9-for-38 mare Getcozywithkaylee. LOVE MY GIRL was well-backed in her comeback, but lost her rider.
