Unusual Hottie and jockey Joe Talamo win the Fran's Valentine Stakes on Saturday.

Unusual Hottie will have a brief vacation following her first stakes win in Saturday’s $100,500 Fran’s Valentine Stakes for California-bred females on turf.

Unusual Hottie won her second race in as many starts this year in the Fran’s Valentine, closing from third in a field of seven to win by three-quarters of a length over Sugarinthemorning.

A 4-year-old filly owned by Seyyed Nilforushan, Unusual Hottie won an optional claimer here April 25, her first start of 2013 and her initial start for trainer Jeff Mullins. Unusual Hottie joined Mullins’s stable in February.

“I thought she needed her last race, but she won anyway,” Mullins said in the winner’s circle Saturday. “We were pointing for this race and didn’t want to empty the tank. This was her second race in [a little more than] three weeks, so she’ll probably get a little rest now.”

Last summer, Unusual Hottie was second in the Solana Beach Handicap for California-breds on turf at Del Mar. The same race Aug. 18 could be on Unusual Hottie’s schedule. By Unusual Heat, Unusual Hottie has won 6 of 13 starts and $289,498.
