Hollywood Park: Reneesgotzip to stretch out in Matriarch

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The pace will be softer but the distance will be farther when sprinter Reneesgotzip stretches to a mile on turf in the Matriarch at Betfair Hollywood Park on Nov. 25.

Reneesgotzip finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 3 at Santa Anita, missing by a 1 3/4 lengths after chasing a blazing pace.

“She was the only one that was close to that hot pace and stuck around,” trainer Peter Miller said. Reneesgotzip has won 4 sprints and $413,600 from 8 starts for Miller and owner Debbie Lanni.
Plans are for her to remain in training next year as a 4-year-old.

In the Matriarch, Reneesgotzip will aim for her initial Grade 1 at a challenging distance. She finished second in two previous main-track routes at Santa Anita. Reneesgotzip missed by a nose in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks and by 3 1/4 lengths in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes.

The $250,000 Matriarch, a highlight of the Hollywood Turf Festival, has not been won by a pacesetter since it was shortened to one mile in 2003. Nominees to the Matriarch include All Star Heart, Broken Dreams, Dayatthespa, Emulous, Future Generation, Nova Hawk, and Yellow Rosebud.

BC Turf Sprint winner Mizdirection is nominated but not expected to run.

In addition to Reneesgotzip in the Matriarch, Miller plans to start two others in upcoming turf stakes. Kindergarden Kid, sixth in the BC Turf, will run Dec. 15 in the Grade 2, $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup. Miss Empire, winner of the $100,000 Pike Place Dancer at Golden Gate, will target the Grade 3, $100,000 Miesque for 2-year-old fillies on turf.
