INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Reneesgotzip, who won the third stakes of her career in the Skillful Joy Stakes last Saturday, will be pointed for the $300,000 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita on Dec. 26.
The Grade 1 La Brea, run over seven furlongs for 3-year-old fillies, could have a very strong field. Other candidates include My Miss Aurelia, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2011, and Gypsy Robin, the winner of the Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland in October.
Wednesday at Santa Anita, My Miss Aurelia worked five furlongs in 1:03, her second workout since the BC Ladies’ Classic.
Reneesgotzip was third against males in the BC Turf Sprint on Nov. 3.
Earlier this year, she won the Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita and the CERF Stakes at Del Mar.
In the Skillful Joy Stakes, Reneesgotzip caught pacesetter Nechez Dawn in the final sixteenth to win the six-furlong race by a neck. The race was run over a track that was officially fast but had sustained rain in the previous day.
Trainer Peter Miller said Reneesgotzip won “in spite of hating the track. She never looked happy on it and never looked comfortable.”
Best Bets
On the heels of a super-fast performance at Aqueduct, BIG SCREEN was close to a blistering pace in a strong renewal of the Westchester and stayed in contention to the stretch; only loss in allowance company this year was a second to Cigar Street, who subsequently won a Grade 3. SUMMER SUNSET has posted exacta finishes seven of eight starts since claimed last spring; reliable gelding faster than ever at age 4.
