INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Bodemeister and Paynter, who between them finished second in all three legs of the 2012 Triple Crown for Zayat Stables and trainer Bob Baffert, will have an Eastern-based campaign later this summer, Baffert said on Saturday.
The tentative plan is for Bodemeister, runner-up in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes to I’ll Have Another, to make his next start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational over 1 1/8 miles at Monmouth Park on July 29.
Paynter, second to Union Rags in the Belmont Stakes on June 9, is likely to race twice at Saratoga – in the $600,000 Jim Dandy Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on July 28 and the $1 million Travers Stakes over 1 1/4 miles on Aug. 25.
Trainer Michael Matz said after the Belmont that Union Rags will be pointed for the Travers, with an expected prep race in the Haskell or Jim Dandy.
Baffert emphasized that the schedule could change for his 3-year-olds.
“That’s the plan today,” he said. “We’ll split them up.”
Union Rags and Paynter rematch it should be a good one.

Anybody feel Bodemeister can be an awesome Miler. Like a Shakelford. Could see this colt running in the Met Mile this year. Would be surprised if he ran in the Travers. Paynter Attigun and Rags rematch with Paynter taking it next time.

Union Rags? He won the Belmont by default. NO ONE wanted any part of the 1 1/2 mile distance, evidenced by the PAINFULLY slow time of 2:30 on a track that was playing fast that day. Baffert is holding the best hand by far with either Bodemeister or Paynter running against this group of underachieving(at this juncture, sans I'll Have Another) 3yo's. Union Rags has not progressed at all at age 3 from his 2 yo campaign, and the rest of this lot is not very good.Maybe as this group matures, we'll see some quality evolve, but as of right now, this 3yo crop leaves a lot to be desired.

I hope we get Union Rags vs Bodemeister in the Haskell but Matz knows he can't UR can't beat Bode so he will avoid Bode at all costs.
Bodemeister will destroy every horse he faces for the rest of the year including older horses in the Classic on his way to Horse of the Year. Jsut look at the list of "top beyers over a mile". And Bode's just getting started.

sorry i did forget 1 detail , valasques, suppose to be out at least 2 months , but im sure they will put a very good jockey on rags for the jim dandy or haskell, maybe ramon dominguez, good luck , to whoever bets against him.

some of u people have no clue , for the person who thinks bode an paynter r the best horses in the country , how many times have they raced ,?, u tell me, i ll give u a for instance , citation 1948 ,16 race win streak ,29 starts 27 wins ,retired, 45 starts 32 wins ,now they run 4races an there the best in the country ,r u kidding me ?id go further with these horses, it would take too long ,sir barton 1919,gallant fox 1930,omaha1935,war admiral 1937,whirlaway 1941, count fleet 1943 ,assult 1946 ,i d mention the other 3 ,but since ur so good u should know who was after citation!!! get my drift , an if rags ran so slow whats that say about paynter ,a slow pace should have enough left to win race , who finished faster i beleive it was rags , or i guess he couldnt have won , try looking up the past performances of all those horses i mentioned u will be amazed , union rags wins his next race ,take it to the bank!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are all getting way ahead of yourselves. Even to think about any of these three-year-olds (none of whom are world-beaters) as being good enough to win the BC Classic is pure folly. Baffert will have the last laugh at the BC. Either Game on Dude or Richard's Kid will win the BC Classic, and the other one will probably be second if they both run.

Like Union Rags or not - recognize the running of that Belmont was painfully slow. 2:30 and change. Compare to other races run the same day and that Beyer figure looks generous. Personally, I feel like he has not improved at all from age 2 - 3. Plus he always gets bet - meaning whatever horse beats him next will be value. I don't see him as speed or a closer - he's versatile and a bit of a grinder.
|
Again everyone goes on and on about UNION RAGS having no speed while before the belmont they said all he had was speed. So again i feel it necessary to repeat that he wired trinniberg at 6 1/2 furlongs at saratoga. He galloped around belmont behind paynter until he found room to run on the rail. UNION RAGS is fast. You can't judge him by his beyer numbers this year because they are inaccurate. Beyers can give false info. They are best used as a guide. They're not scripture. Whether UNION RAGS runs in the haskell or jim dandy next i think we'll see a similiar race like creative cause gave bode in cali. stalk and run right by.... paynter or bode.... time will tell once again.

LOVE TO RUN was rarin' to go first out in two months, so much so that he rocketed through a six-furlong split of 1:08.79 seconds - faster than Cross Traffic in the Westchester at the same one-mile distance a few days earlier; back-to-back Belmont wins last year included one rallying from next-to-last, so he may make good use of outside draw to track COLIZEO. The latter drops to same second-level condition where he won big first off R-Rod claim; reunited with Jose Ortiz, who was aboard for that score on wet track.
