Hollywood Park: Majestic City will put blinkers back on for Sham

The blinkers will go back on Majestic City for his next start, which will likely come in the Sham at Santa Anita.

Rousing Sermon and Brother Francis, second and third in the CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park, and Majestic City, 10th as the 3-1 favorite, are bound for stakes at Santa Anita, but are likely for different races.

Majestic City will make his next start $100,000 Sham Stakes over a mile on Jan. 7 or the $75,000 San Pedro Stakes over 6 1/2 furlongs on Jan. 22, trainer Peter Miller said.

In the CashCall, Majestic City was third for the first seven furlongs and faded to finish 10th. Miller expressed concern about Majestic City’s long-term prospects at distances of 1 1/16 miles or farther. He said that the colt will be fitted with blinkers for his next start.

“He pulled up great,” he said. “He acted like he didn’t run. He was jumping around the shed row, ate his feed, his legs are cold and tight.

“I think we’ll put the blinkers back on him since he spent most of the race looking at the horses next to him. We’ll play it by ear. The Sham is a possibility or the San Pedro.

“I think a mile or 1 1/16 miles will be his best. Maybe he’s just a sprinter. The jury is still out on how far he can run.”
