Hollywood Park: Lucky Chappy has fever, won't run in CashCall Futurity

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Lucky Chappy, fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5, contracted a fever on Tuesday and was not sent as planned to California for Saturday’s $750,000 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park.

Trainer Graham Motion said the fever was detected a day before Lucky Chappy was booked to travel on Sunday.
“He was supposed to ship today and he had a fever of 102 yesterday afternoon,” Motion said on Wednesday. “We couldn’t do it. It’s very frustrating.”

Owned by the Team Valor International syndicate, Lucky Chappy was a stakes winner in Italy in July and was third in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes on turf at Keeneland in his U.S. debut in October. In the Grade 1 BC Juvenile Turf, Lucky Chappy was beaten 3 1/2 lengths by the winner, Wrote.

Motion said that Lucky Chappy will be shipped to Florida at the end of December and is likely to race there in early 2012.
