Hollywood Park: Jim Dandy, Haskell options for Coil

Coil, winning the Affirmed in his stakes debut, could be headed to the East Coast this summer for a race at either Monmouth Park or Saratoga.

Coil, second as the 1-2 favorite in Saturday's Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park, may start in the $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga on July 30 or the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 31, trainer Bob Baffert said on Sunday.

Neil Drysdale said on Sunday that he does not have an immediate goal for Dreamy Kid, who won his stakes debut in the Swaps Stakes in his sixth start. Robert Evans bred and owns Dreamy Kid.

“He’s still a bit of a baby,” Drysdale said. “He’ll improve a lot off of this race.”

Baffert said that Coil may race without blinkers in his next start. The colt wore that equipment for three consecutive wins from November until mid-June. Baffert said that Coil was “the brightest of all” his runners from Saturday on Sunday morning.

“He went around there but it was disappointing that he lost that race,” Baffert said. “I might take the blinkers off him.”
