INGLEWOOD, N.Y. - Angegreen, second in the Group 2 Italian Oaks at San Siro Racecourse on May 26, will make her American debut in the $350,000 American Oaks on July 14, according to the Team Valor International partnership.
Co-owned with Robert Lapenta, Angegreen is an Italian-bred filly by Ekraar. Trained by John Hammond, Angegreen has won three races, and made her stakes debut in the Italian Oaks over 1 3/8 miles on turf where she was beaten 1 1/2 lengths by Cherry Collect.
The Italian Oaks was Angegreen’s first start for Team Valor and LaPenta.
The Grade 1 American Oaks is run over 1 1/4 miles on turf.
Angegreen will be trained by Graham Motion in Maryland following the American Oaks.
The American Oaks is expected to include the first two finishers of the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap last Saturday – My Gi Gi and Lady of Shamrock.
My Gi Gi won the $150,000 Honeymoon Handicap over 1 1/8 miles on turf by a nose over Lady of Shamrock, who was in traffic in early stretch.
“She came out of it really good,” trainer Peter Eurton said of My Gi Gi. “She’s starting to get into her feed tub.”
Lady of Shamrock won three stakes during the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting earlier this year, including the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on turf in April.
I highly doubt My Gi Gi will ever beat Lady Shamrock again... I also doubt you will see Quinonez on Lady Shamrock again anytime soon...

CLASSIC BRYCE went to the sidelines after tanking in the 2012 Canadian Triple Crown, and has worked solidly for a trainer who's begun the meet with a bang. The beautifully-bred son of Grand Slam is out of G2 turf stakes winner Classic Stamp, who's the dam of a grass winner. SEEKINGTHEDIAMOND ended a streak of seconditis when he romped in a recent maiden special around two turns on the grass at Churchill. The late bloomer possesses a fitness edge on most of these, and should be in the thick of the battle.
