Hollywood Park: Hollendorfer thinking Breeders' Cup with Capital Plan

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The victory by Capital Plan in the Grade 3 Beverly Hills Handicap last Sunday has co-owner and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer thinking about the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita in November.

“Long-range, we would hope to be good enough to run on Breeders’ Cup day,” Hollendorfer said. “That’s a long way away.

“We don’t want to use her all up before then. The Breeders’ Cup is on home territory.”

How Capital Plan will be campaigned until the autumn is unclear.

Co-owned by Mark DeDomenico, Capital Plan, by Rock Hard Ten, has won 5 of 12 starts and $305,800.

Tuesday, Hollendorfer said races such as the $250,000 John Mabee Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 12 or the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes over 1 3/16ths on turf at Arlington Park on Aug. 18 are possibilities.

“We’re considering several different things, both in-state and out-of-state,” Hollendorfer said.

Distance is a factor. Capital Plan has won two stakes this year, including the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap at Santa Anita. Both races were over 1 1/4 miles.

“We’d love to run on home grounds,” Hollendorfer said. “If we think we can do well, we’ll travel.”
