Creative Cause will not race again in 2011 and will be pointed to the Kentucky Derby preps at Santa Anita next year.

Creative Cause, third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs last Saturday, will not race again this year and will be pointed to the Kentucky Derby preps at Santa Anita this winter.

Trainer Mike Harrington said earlier this week that Creative Cause will be given “at least 30 days, maybe longer” to rest from his 2-year-old campaign, which included stakes wins in the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar in August and the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita last month.

In the BC Juvenile, Creative Cause finished a head and a length behind Hansen in the field of 13. Creative Cause was third early, but stayed in contention through the final furlong when passed by even-money favorite Union Rags.

“He was closing in the last little bit,” Harrington said.

Owned by Heinz Steinmann, Creative Cause has won 3 of 5 starts and $521,000. Harrington said Creative Cause emerged from the BC Juvenile “a little tired. But he’s fine.

“He’s done for the year. He’ll have at least 30 days, maybe longer, and we’ll gear him up for the spring campaign. That’s our goal.”

Harrington said that Creative Cause is likely to stay at Santa Anita during the winter and the spring in the buildup to the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
