Hollywood Park: Breeder Lovingier scores with pair of juveniles

Email

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Breeder Terry Lovingier swept the first two juvenile races in Southern California on Thursday and Friday with the filly Pay the Debt and the colt Time for a Hug at Hollywood Park.

The win from Time for a Hug in a maiden race for California-breds on Friday was the first winner for Lovingier’s stallion Time to Get Even, who stands at his Lovacres Ranch near Warner Springs, Calif.

Trained by Walther Solis for a partnership led by Lovingier, Time for a Hug ($14) disputed the early pace  and pulled away late to win by a length over California Chrome. Ridden by Jose Valdivia Jr., Time for a Hug ran 4 1/2 furlongs in 52.47 seconds.

“He’ll carry his speed,” Lovingier said. “I think he will keep going.”

Lovingier co-owns Time for a Hug with Tom Beckerle, Ira Herman, and Templeton Horses.

Time to Get Even stands for $3,000. A 9-year-old by Stephen Got Even, Time to Get Even won 3 of 16 starts and $150,084, including a win in the Grade 3 Laz Barrera Memorial Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters at Hollywood Park in 2007.

Pay the Debt is by Awesome Gambler, who stands at Lovacres. Lovingier bred Pay the Debt but does not have an ownership stake in the filly.
