INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The $100,000 Senorita Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday ended tragically when race winner Bobina broke down a stride after the wire and could not be saved.

Bobina suffered catastrophic injuries to the fetlock of her right foreleg and was euthanized on the racetrack, track stewards said. Winning jockey Victor Espinoza was unseated in the accident but rose after a few minutes and walked off the track. He took off his next two mounts.

Making her stakes debut, Bobina ($8) finished a nose in front of My GiGi. Byrama finished third, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Graser, the 2-1 favorite, in the field of seven.

Jockey Kevin Krigger, who rode My GiGi, lodged an objection against the winner, alleging interference in deep stretch. The stewards disallowed the claim of foul.

Espinoza had Bobina in sixth-place on the final turn and rallied four wide in early stretch to reach contention. Bobina and My GiGi ran alongside each other through the final sixteenth, and made slight contact before the wire although the stewards ruled it did not affect the order of finish.

Bobina ran a mile on turf in 1:35.18.

Bobina was undefeated in three starts for breeder Haras Santa Maria de Araras and trained by A.C. Avila. By Malibu Moon, Bobina won a maiden race on turf at Santa Anita on March 31 and an optional claimer on the main track there on April 13.

Cool Frenchy Stakes: Flightofalifetime never headed

Flightofalifetime led throughout Saturday’s $72,400 Cool Frenchy Stakes, the first stakes win for the 4-year-old colt.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Flightofalifetime ($8.60) set early fractions of 21.62 and 44.29 seconds, and held off a late threat from 16-1 Silver Summation to win by 1 1/4 lengths, finishing five furlongs in 57.22 seconds. Flightofalifetime led by four lengths with a furling remaining.

Obviously, the even-money favorite, finished third in the field of seven. Italian Rules, second in the Tiznow Stakes on April 28, was scratched on Saturday.

Flightofalifetime races for George Bolton, Majestic Racing Stable, and Summit Racing and is trained by Bob Baffert. By Werblin, Flightofalifetime has won 2 of 5 starts and $88,990.
