The 2-year-old filly Killer Graces earned a trip to next Saturday’s $250,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes with a runner-up finish to Charm the Maker in the Sharp Cat Stakes at Hollywood Park on Nov. 13.

For the partnership that owns the two-time stakes winner, an appearance in the Grade 1 Starlet will be an expensive venture. Killer Graces must be supplemented to the Starlet for $10,000 when entries are taken on Wednesday.

“We bought her after the nominations closed,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.

Killer Graces was second in her debut on May 1, and was acquired by Hollendorfer later that month. Early nominations for the Starlet were due on May 13. Killer Graces has won 2 of 7 starts and $153,630.

The Starlet, run over 1 1/16 miles, is led by Weemissfrankie, who was third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5. Other probable starters are Sharp Cat winner Charm the Maker, Self Preservation, and Made to Love Her.

◗ Trainer Francisco Santella won his first race in the United States when Coal Region Kid won a $12,500 claimer in Thursday’s third race.

Santella, 33, won nearly 100 races in his native Italy, and has five horses at Hollywood Park.
