Hollendorfer trio vs. 'Dantheman'

ALBANY, Calif. - Northern California's leading trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, knows Saturday's running of the at Golden Gate Fields will tell him a lot about the three colts he has entered.

Hollendorfer will run Lawn Mower and Cappuchino as an entry and Yougottawanna as a separate interest.

"Prep races like this are to tell you what you have," Hollendorfer said. "You need to run well to go on to the next level. I want them all to run well."

Hollendorfer's three will have eight rivals in the $200,000 Grade 3 race at 1 1/16 miles.

Topping the competition is Danthebluegrassman, trained by Bob Baffert and winner of the Golden Gate Derby and Gold Rush Stakes over this track. Captain Squire, winner of the Turf Paradise Derby in his last start, is also entered.

Arsen, Dial a Hero, February Storm, Lethal Grande, Lusty Latin, and Night Passion round out the field.

Hollendorfer was happy with the draw for all three of his colts. Lawn Mower will start from post w, Cappuchino from 8 and Yougottawanna from 9.

Cappuchino led the Golden Gate Derby until the final stride when Danthebluegrassman stuck his nose on the wire first. The two had run one-two all the way around the track with Cappuchino setting the pace.

"Cappuchino drew the eight, and that's an okay post for him," Hollendorfer said. "He's got good tactical speed. I'm pleased Danthebluegrassman drew inside him." Danthebluegrassman drew post 4.

Hollendorfer also was happy with post 9 for Yougottawanna. "I like drawing outside," he said. "You want to keep him in the clear." Yougottawanna, who made headlines when he beat the Baffert-trained Officer in the Cal Cup Juvenile, was fourth behind Danthebluegrassman and stablemate Cappuchino in the Golden Gate Derby on Jan. 12. He was second to Cappuchino in the Feb. 10 Golden State Mile.

"I was pleased with the way Jason [Lumpkins] rode him," Hollendorfer said of the Golden State Mile effort. "Jason knows the horse better now. I expect Yougottawanna to run a great race."

Hollendorfer hasn't settled on how he will ask Russell Baze to ride Cappuchino.

"I want to look at the Form and see what everybody can do," he said.

"There's a lot of strategy involved in this race, including Bob Baffert sending Danthebluegrassman here."
