Hollendorfer hits 7,000-win mark

Tom Keyser
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer joined Dale Baird and Steve Asmussen in the 7,000-win club on Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.

Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer became only the third trainer to reach 7,000 wins for his career when Kiss N Scat, a 2-year-old filly he also owns in partnership, romped in the first race on Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.

Only Steve Asmussen and the late Dale Baird have won more races than Hollendorfer.

Hollendorfer, 69, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. He has won the Kentucky Oaks three times, and has won two Breeders' Cup races, including last month's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies with Songbird, who is a certainty to be named champion of her division.

Hollendorfer has trained two prior Eclipse Award winners, Blind Luck and Shared Belief.

Hollendorfer is the best under rated great trainer in the country!!! It seems like he just won his 6,000th not that long ago. I wonder if his latest 1,000 wins encompassed the shortest amount of time for each 1,000 win interval?
