Hips to watch at the Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale

Following is a selection of hips to watch during Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July selected yearling sale. The selections are based on strength of pedigree, reputation, and past auction performance by the yearling and notable family members. Physical characteristics, vet reports, and other intangibles were not taken into consideration. The list reflects outs and catalog updates through Thursday.

Hip No. 27, High Irish Ibis, b. c., High Cotton—Scarlet Combo, by Scarlet Ibis, consigned by Darby Dan Farm, agent.

A full brother to Grade 2 winner Spurious Precision out of winner Scarlet Combo, who is the dam of five winners from six foals to race. The Florida-bred is from the family of Grade 3 winner Code Name Fred and Bison City Stakes winner Volterra.

Hip No. 52, b. c., Uncle Mo—Spicy Teddy, by Spanish Steps, consigned by Summerfield, agent for Parrish Hill Farm.

The second foal out of the unplaced Spicy Teddy, who is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Sir Bear and stakes producer Passionate Pidgeon.

Hip No. 105, b. c. Tiznow—Withgreatpleasure, by Hold That Tiger, consigned by Brandywine Farm, agent for Spendthrift Farm.

The first foal out of Grade 2 winner Withgreatpleasure, whom Spendthrift Farm purchased with this colt in utero for $485,000 at the 2014 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

You’re Beingplayed, a five-time winner, is the dam of two foals and is a half-sister to Canadian champion Spring in the Air. The filly’s page also includes Grade/Group 1 winners Lady Eli and Palace Episode; Grade 2 winners Changing Ways, Pays to Dream, Tejano Run, More Royal, and Laughing Lashes; and Grade 3 winners Jacorda’s Devil and Bizzy Caroline.

Hip No. 152, ch. c., Sky Mesa—Boodles, by Mr. Greeley, consigned by Ashview Farm, agent.

Stakes-placed Boodles’s two foals to race are UAE Group 3 winner Market Rally and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Watchyourownbobber. Canadian champion Bessarabian and A Fleets Dancer are in the extended family.

Hip No. 153, dk. b. or br. f., City Zip—Boom Town Sally, by Yes It’s True, consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent.

The third foal out of stakes-placed Boom Town Sally, who shares a page with Grade 3 winner Foligno, Grade 2-placed Foolish Tanner, and Grade 3-placed Zerelda.

Hip No. 181, dk. b. or br. f., Bodemeister—Courtly Choice, by Doneraile Court, consigned by Perrone Sales Ltd., agent.

Courtly Choice’s two foals to race are both winners, including multiple Grade 1 winner Wild Dude. That colt’s success took the mare from a $1,000 buyback in 2010 to a $500,000 broodmare purchase at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale.

Hip No. 192, gr. or ro. c., Mission Impazible—Deputy Reality, by Deputy Minister, consigned by Sequel New York, agent.

This New York-bred from the second crop of Mission Impazible is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Teeth of the Dog and hails from the family of Grade 3 winners Krisada and Lone Star Sky.

Hip No. 214, b. c., Into Mischief—Five Star Dream, by Two Punch, consigned by CandyLand, agent.

An Uncle Mo colt out of stakes winner Five Star Dream sold for $1 million this year at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of select 2-year-olds in training. Grade 3 winners Totem and Williams News are in the extended family of this Delaware-certified colt.

Hip No. 217, b. f., Uncle Mo—Flowers Athefinish, by Grand Reward, consigned by Dromoland Farm, agent.

A full sister to stakes-placed Mighty Mo from the family of Group 1 winner Moriarty, Group 2 winner Lear Spear, and Grade 3 winner Lotus Pool. The filly brought $50,000 as a weanling at last year’s Keeneland November sale.

Hip No. 222, ch. c., Curlin—Franscat, by Stormin Fever, consigned by St George Sales, agent.

Franscat is the dam of six winners from seven foals to race, including stakes winners Hubba Shake and Swinger’s Party and Grade 3-placed Powhatan County. Grade 1 winners Ogygian and Honour and Glory can be found on the Florida-bred’s page.

Stakes-placed Ithinkisawpudycat is a half-sister to Canadian champion Spring in the Air, with an extended family that includes Group 1 winner Palace Episode and Grade/Group 2 winners Changing Ways, Pays to Dream, Tejano Run, More Royal, and Laughing Lashes. Full sister Sweet Loretta brought $750,000 as a weanling at the 2014 Keeneland November sale.

The third foal out of winner Kuhlu, who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Tableaux and Grade 3 winner Giant Gizmo. Grade 1 winners Mi Selecto and Blossoming Fields are on the page of this filly, who sold for $77,000 as a weanling at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November sale.
