Hip No. 90 is fastest at F-T

MIAMI - A Deputy Minister colt put up the day's fastest time Sunday at the Fasig-Tipton Calder juvenile sale's final under-tack show, stopping the timer in 10.00 seconds for a one-eighth-mile work over a sloppy track.

The colt, currently named Dean of Students, is out of the stakes winning Seeking the Gold mare Oxford Scholar. He sells as Hip No. 90 from Kip Elser's Kirkwood Stables agency.

Overnight and morning showers did not appear to dampen workout times at the Calder track. In addition to Dean of Students, who improved on his Feb. 16 one-eighth-mile time of 10.20 seconds, other top workers were Hip No. 115, a Salt Lake-Proud Caitlin colt who covered a quarter-mile in 21.20 seconds, and Hip No. 36, a Silver Deputy-Ligurian filly who posted a three-eighths time of 34.60 seconds.

Hip No. 115 is a half-brother to stakes winner Devilish Erica and stakes placed Hunters Circle. Asmussen Horse Center, agent, will offer him. Hip No. 36, the Silver Deputy filly, is a half-sister to stakes-placed Aspen Hill and comes from the family that also produced Grade 1 winner Victory Speech. She will sell from the Leprechaun Racing agency's consignment.

The one-day auction will take place Tuesday in Calder Race Course's paddock. The session begins at 11 a.m.
