High Fly leads future bet


Midway through the second of four days of wagering, High Fly was the very lukewarm favorite in Pool 3 of the .

As of 5:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday, High Fly was the 9-1 choice, followed closely by Consolidator (10-1), High Limit (10-1), Noble Causeway (11-1), Sun King (11-1), Sweet Catomine (12-1), Bandini (12-1), and the mutuel field (12-1) of all other 3-year-olds.

Handle was $68,637. Churchill Downs officials were expecting the heaviest wagering action to come after several key Derby preps were run Saturday. Cumulative handle for the Derby futures is on a record pace after attracting more than $1.13 million during the first two pools.

Meanwhile, in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, Sweet Catomine was the 7-2 favorite on handle of $7,666.

Derby Pool 3 closes Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern, a half-hour before the Oaks futures.
