It doesn't seem to matter what class level Hi Time Scott is placed, so long has he gets to run a one-turn mile at Laurel Park. Making the steep class-rise from a $7,500 starter allowance to the $100,000 Charles Hadry, the 6-year-old Hi Time Scott ($9) overtook Sinister G at the eighth pole and drew clear to a five-length victory. Ridden by Joe Rocco Jr. for trainer William Downing, Hi Time Scott is now 4 for 6 lifetime at Laurel. In addition to taking the starter allowance by four lengths on Aug. 20, Hi Time Scott also scored against high-priced optional claimers in his previous start going one mile locally last October. Hi Time Scott's stablemate, Hitthegroundrunnin, finished second, a neck in front of Sinister G, the slight favorite at 6-5. The winning time was 1:35.74. In the $75,000 Humphrey Stakes for 3-year-old Maryland-breds, Irish Osprey ($8.60) surged in deep stretch to nail favored Ah Day by a head. The longshot Two Terms finished third. Irish Osprey, facing statebreds for the first time after three starts in open company, ran 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.07. Ryan Fogelsonger rode Irish Osprey for trainer Edwin Merryman. Ah Day, a four-time stakes winner on dirt this season, was making his turf debut and looked like a winner when he gained a clear lead in the stretch until Irish Osprey made his late move.
