Hezamazing dominated the $50,000 Arapahoe Park Classic for the second time in his career on Sunday, when he rolled to a front-running six-length win. Hezamazing also won the race in 2010 by a romping nine lengths.
Hezamazing was the favorite in Sunday’s renewal and won over Behold de Buy. It was another six lengths back in third to Dance to the Star.
Hezamazing ($6) led the field through an opening quarter in 24.35 seconds, and proceeded to set fractions of 48.13 for the first half-mile and 1:11.86 for six furlongs. He increased his advantage through the stretch, and covered the 1 1/8-mile distance on a fast track in 1:50.45.
Russell Vicchrilli rode Hezamazing for Carlyle Rollins and trainer Rick Houghton.
Houghton said Hezamazing was given to Rollins by one of the owner’s friends, back when the horse was 2 and turned out in a pasture in Utah. Hezamazing, now 7, has gone on to win 14 races, including seven stakes, for career earnings of $274,053. For his victory on Sunday, he picked up $30,000. Hezamazing is a gelding by Indy Film.

MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
