Heza Hemi has familiar company in Patrick Wood

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Heza Hemi, winner of the Little Ones Stakes on Sept. 4, heads a full field of 10 for the $50,000 Patrick Wood Stakes at Great Lakes Downs on Monday.

The six-furlong Wood, which goes as race 8 on a 10-race card that begins at 5 p.m. Eastern, is for Michigan-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings.

Heza Hemi, trained by Larry Penner, rallied to win by a neck last time out over Mt. Factor and Shoot With Pride. Colin Skinner picks up the mount because Heza Hemi's regular rider, Ricky Knott, is out with a broken wrist.

Heza Hemi will face Shoot With Pride again, as well as Lil Perfect Storm. Lil Perfect Storm, trained by Del Waite, was clear and appeared to be headed for victory in the Little Ones when he bolted on the turn.

Zephyr Charlie, who was a decisive winner Sept. 20 in his first start, will run back on just five days' rest for Gerald Bennett, the top trainer at the meet. Leading rider Terry Houghton has the mount.

The remainder of the field consists of Weatherstorm, Out With a Bang, Domestic Oil, Yukon Match, Kyle's Treasury, and Grrrifeck.
