Heza Fast Classic heads Louisiana-breds

Fastest qualifier Heza Fast Classic will try for his third straight win and first stakes win in the $517,964 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity for statebreds on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs.

Heza Fast Classic won a maiden race in his third start and then won his LQHBA Futurity trial by three lengths in 20.082 seconds for 400 yards, the fastest time from 16 trials.

Qualifiers First Down Toro and Dashin Classy Lady also won their maidens two starts ago and won their futurity trials.

Tricky Dust favored at Zia

Defending winner Tricky Dust should be favored in a field of six Thoroughbreds and four Quarter Horses racing 1,000 yards in the $75,000 Black Gold Casino Stakes on Sunday afternoon at Zia Park.

A Quarter Horse son of a Thoroughbred Horse of the Year, Favorite Trick, Tricky Dust had a six-race winning streak - which included five stakes - end when he ran a troubled second at 1-2 in the 870-yard Herman Jefferson Stakes on Oct. 21. He was checked entering the turn and then a made a stunning rally through the stretch to nearly catch the gate-to-wire winner, Roto Rooster.
