Hey Hey Renee on a roll entering Oaks

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Hey Hey Renee looks for her fourth stakes win here in Sunday's $40,000 Assiniboia Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles.

Trained by Ardell Sayler, Hey Hey Renee has won five of her six local starts. As a 2-year-old, Hey Hey Renee won at first asking and then was second in the Debutante Stakes before taking the Winnipeg Futurity. This year, Hey Hey Renee has won the Chantilly, the prep for the Jack Hardy, and then the Jack Hardy in her most recent start.

Hey Hey Renee enters Sunday's race off a bullet five-furlong workout of 59.60 seconds. Sayler will equip her with blinkers for the first time in the Oaks.

Sayler also sends out Lyric Lake, who won at first asking as a 2-year-old and then finished fourth in the Debutante. This season, Lyric Lake has finished third in the Chantilly before defeating males in a first-level allowance. A daughter of Salt Lake, Lyric Lake finished second in the prep for the Jack Hardy before finishing sixth in the Hardy itself.

Empress Pegasus, a maiden, could provide the biggest opposition for Hey Hey Renee. Second against maiden special weight company at Santa Anita twice earlier this year, Empress Pegasus finished fifth, beaten three lengths, in the Manitoba Derby last time in her only local start.

Tactical Candy won her first start on May 20 here. A Bert Blake trainee, Tactical Candy finished second in the Chantilly in her next start, then was third in the allowance prep for the Jack Hardy and fifth in the stakes itself.

Diamondsintheway was fourth in the Chantilly in her first local start. She won a first-level allowance in her next start before finishing fourth in the prep for the Jack Hardy. Diamondsinthway, trained by Emile Corbel, was scratched from the Jack Hardy after flipping in the gate.
