Heros Reward pulls clear

Heros Reward ($2.80) kept within a length of the leaders until the top of the stretch before drawing away under steady encouragement from jockey Javier Castellano to win the five-furlong $100,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup on turf by 1 3/4 lengths Friday night at Penn National. Rouse the Cat finished second, a neck ahead of Hesa Big Star.

Trained by Dale Capuano, Heros Reward has finished first or second in 12 of his 14 starts in the past two seasons, including a pair of wins in graded stakes at Woodbine. The 6-year-old gelding covered the five furlongs on firm turf in 55.14 seconds. With the win, he banked $60,000 for owners Rob Ry Farm and Jayne Marie Slysz, pushing his career earnings to $803,600.
