The 2016 Heritage Place Thoroughbred yearling and mixed sale turned in a stellar performance Sunday, showing growth in average sale price led by an $18,000 Astrology colt.

A total of 73 horses changed hands for revenues of $226,850, down 11 percent from last year’s returns of $254,100 from 84 horses sold. The average sale price increased 3 percent to $3,108 from $3,025.

The buyback rate finished at 24 percent, up from 21 percent the previous year.

Al and Bill Ulwelling bought the sale-topper, a $18,000 Astrology colt out of the unraced Vanlandingham mare Diamond Ruth.

Bred in Oklahoma and consigned as agent by Rusty Roberts, the colt is a sibling to four winners from seven runners out of the mare, including stakes winners Antioch Diamond and Zippie Okie. He is from the extended family of stakes winners Prudent Ruth, Wally Badger, and Only Cash.

The most expensive offering of the mixed session was Sheri’s Thunder, a placed Thunder Gulch mare who sold to Bill Tracy for $6,000.

The 7-year-old mare sold in foal to Maclean’s Music and produced her first foal, an Ice Box colt, in 2015. Sheri’s Thunder is from the family of Grade 2 winner Dance Master and Grade 3-placed Naninja.

Marty Powers consigned the mare, as agent.
