Hello Lucky runs down Selvatica in Las Flores

ARCADIA, Calif. - Hello Lucky, who placed in two graded stakes as a 2-year-old in 2004, finally won at that level in Saturday’s $113,600 Las Flores Handicap at Santa Anita.

Hello Lucky ($68.60) won the Grade 3 race by a length over 8-5 favorite Selvatica. Babe Hall, who stumbled badly at the start, finished third in the field of 12 fillies and mares.

Ridden by Michael Baze, Hello Lucky ran six furlongs in 1:09.34. She was fifth for the first half-mile, chasing a quick pace of 21.47 and 44.24 seconds shared by Hystericalady, Maryfield and Selvatica. Selvatica emerged with the lead in early stretch, but could not hold off a wide rally from Hello Lucky.

Owned by Southern Equine Stable and trained by Eric Guillot, Hello Lucky, 5, has won 5 of 19 starts and $314,480. In 2004, she finished third in the Grade 3 Sorrento and Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante.
